Mark Myrie, better known as Jamaican reggae artist Buju Banton, will return to court on 26 June before US district judge James Moody.

Myrie will appear along with Terri Wright, the juror who is alleged to have violated court orders during the performer’s February 2011 drugs trial.

A computer expert has already tried to determine whether Wright read up on the singer and the law during the trial.

The expert was given access to a hard drive surrendered by Wright and found a trail of 1.6 million Internet history records, but none pertained to the time frame in question. Imhotep Alkebu-lan, Myrie’s attorney, has suggested in a court filing that Wright didn’t surrender the correct device.

Wright will be questioned about the computer expert’s report and might also be quizzed on other issues raised in a defence motion for a new trial.

Marley’s family owned record label is releasing a new compilation album, cementing the label’s commitment to exposing fresh Jamaican talent.

“Set Up Shop Volume 1” was released worldwide on Itunes on Tuesday, 26 February.

The album offers 14 tracks featuring talent from the “Ghetto Youths International” line up.

Artists include Jo Mersa and Daniel Marley aka Bambaata, the third generation of Marley performers, along with other popular acts such as Wayne Marshall, Black-Am-I, Christopher Ellis and Marley brothers – Stephen, Julian and Damian Jr. Gong Marley. Also featured are noteworthy collaborations from the likes of Jah Cure, Bugle, Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Akon, Tarrus Riley and T.O.K.

The interesting mix of artists brings an exciting mix of themes, crossing genres from dancehall to traditional roots reggae and showcasing what is no doubt a stable of high calibre talent among the ranks of Ghetto Youths International.

Three-time Grammy winner Damian Marley is well represented on the album with six singles, which includes hits such as 2012 Song of the Year “Affairs of the Heart” and “Set Up Shop”, a song about being enterprising no matter what your life situation.

Stephen Marley, who has won eight Grammys contributes to the effort with the single “The Conclusion”, featuring Akon and Buju Banton. The song will also be featured on Revelation Part 2 “The Fruit of Life”.

“Move Dem” from Julian Marley and Deejay Bugle is a new track from Julian. His last album release was critically acclaimed and nominated for a Grammy in 2009.

Newcomer Joe Mersa, son of Stephen Marley, contributes the recently released “Bad So and Comfortable”. Daniel Marley son of Ziggy Marley, showcases his moving vocals with the song “Treat You Right”.

Christopher Ellis is another Ghetto Youths International artists to appear on the album. He is the son of rock steady legend Alton Ellis and teams up with T.O.K’s Bay C on the catchy “Don’t Change Your Number”. He also appears on the hit “End of Time” alongside Stephen Marley and Jah Cure.

Singjay Wanyne Marshall leads on “Go Hard”. The star studded collaboration also features Damian Marley, Aidonia, I-Octane, Assassin, Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel. The video for the songs premiered on American website worldstarhiphop.com and amassed some 3 million views in less than 24 hours.

Marshall also appears on “In Dependence”, a provocative song with Damian Marley and Tarrus Riley.

Rounding out the compilation is newcomer and roots singer Black-Am-I, who powerfully represents with “Samson Strength” and “Modern Day Freedom”.

Ghetto Youths International is owned by brothers Stephen, Damian and Julian, who have put extensive work into developing the compilation and artists.

On Wednesday, during a hearing in Tampa, FL, it was determined that Terri Wright, a juror accused of violating court orders in Buju Banton’s February 2011 drug trial, submitted the wrong computer hard drive for an examination conducted by the singer’s forensic expert to determine if she illegally researched aspects of the case.

However, Wright, who insisted she used a laptop during the trial, submitted a hard drive for an old desktop computer.

Speaking with the Jamaica Observer, Buju’s lawyer, Chokwe Lumumba said:

“Her attorney stated in court that she surrendered the hard drive of a laptop computer.

She said she did research on the case three weeks after the trial.

The expert found no evidence that she did any research at all on that hard drive and found that it was not the hard drive of a laptop but the hard drive of a desktop.

We are of the firm opinion that she did not submit the hard drive for a laptop computer.”

As a result, there are calls from Buju and his legal team regarding a new trial as Lumumba has filed a motion with Judge James Moody, asking that he convict Wright of misconduct.

A hearing has been set for next week.

Wright reportedly told a Florida newspaper that she did research aspects of Buju’s case and cited the Pinkerton rule, a rule used to incriminate Banton on a gun charge originally thrown out during his conviction, but reinstated after a failed appeal last summer.

She later claimed she had researched aspects of the case three weeks after the trial concluded.

If convicted, a mistrial would be ruled and a new trial could be granted.

Should Buju win said trial, which would be his third on this matter, Lumumba says the Grammy-winning singer could file a civil suit against American authorities seeking damages wrongful imprisonment, loss of earnings.

He could also demand that his U.S. Visa be reinstated.

Lawyers for impisoned reggae star Buju Banton say one of the jurors who found him guilty in a 2011 drug-trafficking trial disobeyed the judge’s orders not to read about the case while serving on the jury.

Bay News 9 news partner The Tampa Bay Times reports experts searched juror Terri Wright’s computer earlier this month but found nothing suspicious.

Banton’s lawyers say Wright handed in the wrong laptop, but Wright’s attorneys say it’s her only computer.

If there was any juror misconduct, Banton’s team might have grounds to ask for a re-trial.

Incarcerated reggae star Buju Banton is heading back to court at the end of December and may well end up getting a whole new trial on the questionable drug and gun charges that he’s currently serving ten years for.

Last week, Judge James Moody decided to grant Buju an evidentiary hearing and bring four members of the jury that found the singer guilty into the courtroom for questioning.

The move comes after juror Terri Wright told news reporters that she researched certain legal aspects of the case while the trial was ongoing.

The judge has ordered that Wright, as well as three other jurors, appear in the Tampa federal court on December 20 for questioning.

The judge is looking to “determine whether jurors were exposed to extrinsic information” during the trial.

The other jurors that have been called in for questioning are Frank Arnone, Janice Benoit, and Steven Boyce.

New TImes attempted to contact all three over the course of reporting but did not hear back from any of them.

According to the new court order, the jurors were selected alphabetically.

After the judge filed the order, Buju’s attorney, Chokwe Lumumba, filed a motion asking that the judge also bring in three jurors the New Times did interview, as well as this reporter. The judge has yet to respond to the request.

Overall, New Times has interviewed four jurors who found Buju guilty of two drug charges and a gun charge back in February 2011.

All four jurors, however, agreed that the gun charge was without merit and some said that they would have found Buju innocent of it if they could have.

One juror even said it was a relief when the trial judge tossed the gun charge because nobody thought the singer was guilty of it.

Even though the gun charge was tossed, an Atlanta appeals court reinstated it earlier this year.

The singer could ultimately end up getting five years added to his already decadelong sentence.
